Well it's not necessarily important.. I mean if you define submissive as compromising then it is. But the way that sounds is that one person is constantly giving into the other person.. and well, that's not cool. Submissive people usually are dependent on their partner, and they don't get as much out of the relationship.
It's necessary to be more independent and willing to butt heads but realize that you still love each other in the end.

It's very important.
If both partners - would be submissive each to the other - then it would be a sweet example for each of them, which would promote such an incredible link to each other.

Could you be more specific?
Are you talking about the traditional viewpoint that the woman should be more demure, passive and/or submissive? Or are you talking about it in the Biblical sense, where the Bible dictates that a woman should submit herself to her husband?
Without being specific, I have NO idea how to target and answer this question.
