The silliest question: a customer told my friend working in retail would have to be the time a customer asked him to build a gazebo on the customer's backyard.

My friend and I were working at Zellers at the time as hardline associates. What are the chances... LOL. My friend does not even know how or even look like a builder.

If a customer wants a gazebo built in their backyard a smart thing would do is to research before they go shopping.

I'll give the best answer for the silliest question.

"Can I shut the door?" - In a fitting room
"Can I pay you back later?"
While I was filling out a gift certificate "Why are you giving me a check?"
"Is this towel one size fits all?"
"Can I take it to the beach?" - a BEACH towel!
"Do you have this in baby sizes?" - in a adult clothing store
"Can I go check in the store room?"
During a sale which involved items that ONLY were on tables and racks (not on the walls) "if this was on the wall is it on sale?" "why not?" "oh but I found it on the table"
"Can you give me a discount" - in clothing chain store by a person buying *shock* TWO pants.
"What size would my wife be? She has big boobs"

This wasn't a question but a man tried to pay me for 2 singlets at the front table of a store like it was a market or something. He also wanted "a receipt with that" because I obviously come with a built in register. He then got angry when I told him he had to go to the counter.
All this has happened in the past month. The joys of retail.

One time, a man walked in to the store when all the lights were on, the music was playing, and there was someone behind the cash register and asked "Are you open?" Another time a girl tried to pay for a 15 cent purchase with her credit card.

What time do you close? This is the most common question they will ask when there are pharmacy hours posted right at the drive thru window and at drop off right in front of their faces and they just don't bother to look.
