Ok, I've been searching for a new drawing tablet, but one with a tilt option since I mainly use it for illustration. I have been using an older Wacom that my brother has lent me , but I'd like to return it to him and get my own. It seems that Wacom is the only brand that has a tilt option and havent been able to find any others..

Are there any other brands? AND with a $300 or so budget; are there any better candidates for drawing tablets? I have seen brands such as Genius, Aiptek, Adesso, but is there any reason to get those over the Wacom other than price?

Thanks.

With this kind of thing you really get what you pay for. Wacom is the best, IMO. I tried an Adesso but it wasn't really compatible with Photoshop and had issues with the compatibility on Mac. After doing my research I found that the Adesso seemed to have a lot of unresolved bugs, didn't work with Photoshop and wasn't as Mac compatible as they said. I don't know about the other two brands you listed but I would strongly suggest stinking with the wacom if you can.

The Wacom Bamboo is a pretty good deal. I think it was about 150 for the 6x8 (course that's in canada so I don't know what it would be anywhere else) that's a good size and worked really well with photoshop and illustrator. The only reason I took it back was because I decided I wanted to upgrade to the Intuos and have the options of buying the different pens.

If you want a larger one you can search ebay or craigslist I've often seen them advertised on there for sale and there are some pretty good deals.

One of the reasons I like my smaller size tablet is that it is very comfortable to hold on my lap, while drawing. It sits in a very natural, intuitive position, while I look at the results on the monitor.

If you really needed a tilting support, and that was the main reason to seek an upgrade, I'd suggest you, just, get a book or two on the desk to support the tablet at the angle you like to work.
