None...they were not as well equipped, not as well paid or dressed, not as uniformly drilled, had various types of maneuvers that might not mix with what other units were doing (less standardization), they had, in the early war, a mix of weapons needing different round ball loads, they had fewer cannon, were not as well fed, had ammunition shortages. They had bayonet shortages. Their officers had less experience or training overall than the Brits. They had few ships to give naval support and were completely outmatched by the British navy.
The Americans had to START a bureaucracy that would supply the army.
The American army used EXACTLY the same tactics, except for a few riflemen (which they replaced with muskets as fast as possible) but were not as skilled in them until Von Steuben drilled the army at Valley Forge.
Now on the other hand, while the soldiers had no advantages, America as a whole had some advantages.
Britain had a 3000 mile supply line to maintain, which was expensive, and meant no fresh food was brought, nor animal forage nor enough horses. Men and material had to be sent for and then be brought by sea.
While they did that the Americans also had 1800 miles of coast or more the British had to try and watch over occasionally, to keep the American raiding ships at bay. Those raiders intercepted large numbers of merchant ships bringing supplies to the British forces- an expense to Britain.
The British could control only the land they could shoot over with their navy ships or had troops on. Trying to expand those areas left them open to counter attack like at Trenton.
The British also had other colonies and lands to protect overseas from the French, Dutch, and Spanish.
Most of all, the British had to crush the American army completely, while the Americans merely had to survive to win in the end. They could and did lose most battles, but if they escaped capture or destruction they could and did fight again later.

When? Depends on what war you mean?

In the Revolutionary we had Rifleman that sniped their officers and fought more guerrilla warfare rather than line up 50 yards apart and fire.
