It was the battle of Lexington and Concord.
the war was the American Revolutionary War
"the shot heard round the world" was not a battle or a war, but an actual shot that started the battle, and the war, from an unknown source

while Lexington and Concord took place on the same day, Glenn has it right.Lexington was a quick rout; Concord much more of a battle in that the two sides held their lines and the Minutemen drove the British off......and the quote is indeed from Emerson, writing about Concord bridge.
" that rude bridge that spanned the Aprils' flood
Where the embattled farmers stood;
and fired the shot heard round the world"
and anywhere that people inspired by Americans stand for their rights and their freedoms.....from Concord that day to Beijing and Baghdad today and God knows where tomorrow.that shot still echoes..

Trick question...."The shot heard 'round the world" is from a stanza written by ? Emerson ? who happened to live next to the North Bridge in Concord where the first firing on the
British started- a regiment fired on a British company that had fired on them, driving them off the Bridge.
The first FIGHTING started at Lexington, when the British opened fire on the American militia paraded on the green.
The first BATTLE started when the British left Concord and reached Miriams corner outside of town, where they were attacked in force by the Americans, and continued to be attacked the rest of the day along their march.
