The beaches on the southside are the most beautiful, crystal clear water!!I especially recommend the beach underneath the monastery of Preveli,it's gorgeous(note i haven't been there in the last few years so am judging by the memory of a few years back).Chania has beautiful parts of the old town still left and it's always nice to walk throught the small streets and enjoy the history all around you!The Gorge of Samaria is the most well known(I have never been) but I do recommend the gorge of Ag. Irini, which is shorter and full of green :)Very beautiful! The plateau of Siteia, the cave of Psuchro,Ag Nikolaos are all places worth a visit!Heraklion is the place to be if you like shopping and a big, energetic town!I could go on and on but I will just make you bored, you can mail me if you need any info on anything cretan,I'd be happy to help you :)

hello
Crete is a wonderful island (especially during summer) where u can find EVERYTHING. perfect beaches, perfect food perfect people and perfect bars. i love this island and i like everything there.chania is the best place in Crete and rethymno is nice too.Don't try heraklio as it is just a big city with too much traffic and not as pretty as the others. samaria gorge is very nice, falasarna beach, preveli, elafonisi beach, the old town in chania and too many other places.
i hope u enjoy your trip to crete.

Knossos, the caves of Zoniana,Samaria Gorge (if the weather permits=flash floods),Imbros Gorge,Sitia,Rhythmno..with its' Turkish fortress,Plakia,Heraklion..the Harbour..the cave where Hercules was born...the people out in the country side..very generous..watch those goat stampedes on cobbled streets..cater a lot to Germans during tourist season...But mention you are an Australian or they hear the accent in the hills etc...You treated like royalty..the War,you know..Great Place! Crete is like home to me..I met my wife there..even when she kicked the doors of the palace at Knossos..which she had dreamt about exploring since a little girl..she has a degree in Paleoanthropogy and I have a mythic sense of Mythology..our idea to break into Knossos was thwarted by our future plans together..ever swum in the Libyran Sea?

My limited experience on Crete is that it has no as much green as Evoia but it makes a fantastic combination of all the types of Greek landscape. From green to rocky and barren land but all is beautiful in its own way. The beaches are fantastic and easy to reach. The fact that is a large island, gives you the opportunity to experience many different places.
Limited space to mention all and then surely something will be left out. Just as much as Evoia, only larger.
My advice take your company and go for it. It is worth it, all the money. You should at least go once.
