Leopard frogs inhabit permanently or intermittently in streams, irrigation canals, and some ponds. They usually "bury" themselves down the soil. They are able to stay in waters as well being highly aquatic animals and they often jump into water from the stream bank to avoid capture.

Just like any other frogs, leopard frog's skin is permeable to oxygen and carbon dioxide, as well as to water. Number of blood vessels are found near the surface of the skin. Underwater, O2 is transmitted through its skin directly into its bloodstream. While on land, the adult leopard frogs use their lungs to breathe.

They eat wide variety of insects and worms- such as night crawlers, crickets and woodlice, and they are also fish eaters.

Leopard frogs do not require special lighting or heating. They may breed year-round, and tadpoles may take more than a year to develop.
