LGBT refers also to bisexuals and transgender people (who are not the same as homosexuals).

Some (but not all) lesbians feel women are invisibilised by the word 'homosexual' which is rather masculine.

Sometimes the word homosexual is used in a way that does have a pejorative flavour. I noticed Dr Phil on Letterman the other night telling off Letterman for using it in a way that was kind of off, and suggesting that 'gay' was a more appropriate alternative.

I guess the upshot is, if it bothers some people when you use it, whether intentional or not, and if it's pretty easy to use another term which doesn't bother anyone, you may as well and avoid any unnecessary distress.

'Homosexual' is not a pejorative in itself. It all depends on who's using the term, how and why. Some people use words like 'Christian,' 'Muslim' or 'Jew' pejoratively. I would prefer when people visualize me it is not solely as a homosexual. But if they do, especially if he is hot, I probably won't be offended.

Homosexual is not an offensive term any more than heterosexual or bisexual are.
Yahoo is not being "PC" by listing this as LGBT, but is expanding beyond just homosexuality (i.e. Lesbians and Gay men) and inclusing Bisexuals and Transgender people as well.

It can be because when shortened to homo, it definitely is an insult. On the other hand, when you refer to a bisexual as bi, it's not seen as an insult.

I suppose it's a case of one more to be pitied and one more to be envied.

No.
PC? I think LGBT is just more encompassing. Bisexuals for instance dont always identify as gay, you know?
