An OB delivers babies., I believe they are able to do Cesarean sections. A GYN surgeon can perform hysterectomy's, tubal and other procedures concerning the female reproductive area

OB/gyn is the lowest on the ladder of surgical doctors because they are restricted to the female reproductive system. They perform both cancer surgery of the female reproductive system and do c-sections (these are both very common) among other things.

Almost all doctors who are OBs are also GYNs (I've actually never seen an exception). However, a GYN does not always works on births. For instance, my doctor, who just retired this year, retired from OB 4 years ago, although he remained a Gyn.

Ob/Gyns perform all sorts of procedures. From Pap tests, to STD testing, to checking for other problems like edometriosis, cysts and infections. They also do pre-natal child care, delivery and post-natal care.

Surgically, they do anything pertaining to the female reproductive organs. C-sections, hysterectomies, tubal ligations, removing cysts.

OB/GYNs also need to have a better bedside manner than most doctors because they get so 'close and personal' with their patients.
