The glass is poured out on a steel table and a heavy steel roller on spacers a fixed distance above the table is rolled across it to make even thickness. Both are kept within temperature range by water cooling. The pattern is on the roller because it moves out of the way.
Some patterned colored stained glass is made by pouring a base color and drizzling other colors over it then running a roller across which may be patterned.
Certain high production glass patterns could be made by taking the float glass as it comes off the tin and squeezing it between a pair of cylinders.
