I suspect it has a great impact. Most young people are very weary, as maybe they should be. 40 years ago it was nothing to go certain places and hang out and see adults as just people who are doing their own thing. Suddenly in 40 years now we have to be careful where we go and who talks to us and a whole bunch of things. Teenagers today in some places are carring guns. They were raised watching cartoons where no gets hurt, they really do have a false sense of what they are doing until in some instances it is too late, and then they lose 20-30 years of their life. Drugs are also more prevalent today. I am glad I am way past some things some teens now face. Good luck, Find a great support system and stick to it.

It desensitizes them. It desensitizes everyone, really. Things we used to think were brutal, are now mild in comparison to what we see now. They show so much violence on TV and in video games etc... and the news networks are actually SHOWING scenes they wouldn't have 15 years ago. Things just don't shock the public anymore. It minimizes the affects of violence to the point where nothing is so bad that it will be unheard of in the future.

Kids who shoot up their school mates for example...that NEVER happened 40 years ago. We still had guns then, but to do that would be unthinkable, even for the angriest teen. Now, it's a semi-annual occurrance.

well, since there is less crime and violence than there has been in many decades, there should be less of a direct connection.
