It plays a big part. I have watched children grow up in several different evironments and in this I have seen that some children learn to hate their parents behaviors and break the cycle of it. I have also seen the ones that grow up and be just like them. I think it all depends on the way the child is treated due to the behavior.

A large part. Addiction is usually a learned behavior that is obtained through family "habits". Addiction is also hereditary.

I think it has to do with the age-old rule. If your parents do it/did it, it's not cool. Anything your parents didn't do and advise you not to do is cool. My Dad had drug problems when I was young and I always thought he was so lame for it, so I never got into them. But I had friends who had straight-laced parents so they would smoke anything because they thought their parents were lame.
