Awe, I'm sorry you feel that way JDG. Yes hopefully as you mature you will see that senior people are, for the most part,
sweet, kind, and very interesting people and you'll be able to appreciate them. I take it that if you have grandparents they must not be over 30 years old?.

As the others have said, as long as it is done with sincerity then all the power to them. I genuinely loved listening to the older generation when I was young. My love of their stories lead me into geriatric nursing.

But there is a difference between genuine appreciation, and sucking up in order to "make points" with the older generation....you know, somewhat as your struggling artist nephew would do when his Mom reminds him that it is YOU who has all the money?...that sort of reaching out for personal gain is demeaning to all those involved. Just because we are getting old, doesn't mean that we are getting stupid!!

Hahaha!!! My school has volunteer requirements in order for graduation. I had to work with them, I hated it. Most of the kids my age or at least the ones I know, don't like the elderly. Some guy tipped me a dollar and was like "thanks for being slow." I'll probably like them more when I get older though.

We DO have youth with character and the right stuff, it's the hellions that get the news coverage.I feel most youngsters are respectful, compassionate, first rate citizens, not just for their work with seniors, but the patriotic young men and women that are putting everything on the line daily for the freedom we enjoy, not to mention Peace Corps and volunteer missionary type works.

......... and then again, there's the immature trolls ...

I think it's always nice when young folks sincerely reach out to their elders. My husband's mom had emphysema and was very sick before she passed away. My daughter was 9 at the time and she was very kind and caring to her. I've seen kids who weren't that way, we knew this said a lot about the kind of person she'd grow up to be.

Hooray for the parents that taught them!!!!!! Thank goodness my kids do. We need more parents teaching their children the basics. Certain things seem to have gone by the wayside don't you think?
