I noticed a ton of new top contributors (including myself, ha ha). Sure, its nice to have one. Back when I spent my time in the Beauty & Style section, I tried so hard to get one of those darned orange badges and now that I came to the baseball section and care more about talking about my favorite sport than getting some silly badge, I get one! Go figure!

Part of it is best answer%. You're at 7% right now and the lowest top contributor I have seen was at like 13% or 14%. You also have to answer a lot of question during a certain time period. I noticed a bunch more people in the fantasy sports section with top contributor badges all of a sudden. My guess is Yahoo! raised the number of top contributors in each category because before I think it was a limited amount in each category.
Use your knowledge. If you keep trying you'll get there. Good luck!

I have no interest in the top contributor badge for myself or for anyone else who may or may not have one. I have been around for a long time and know where the consistently solid questions and answers are going to come from. There are several very good contributor's on this site without the orange badge and several others with it that, in my opinion, don't deserve it. "bdough15" was a top contributor and just lost it because he took some time off or didn't respond to enough questions in a certain time frame. He is one of the top responders on the site and I would give him mine if there was a way to do it.

I don't know how those top contributor badges work...I lost mine the other day...but I haven't been answering as many baseball questions as I was during the season...I guess I will try to get it back now.

I don't know I had a Top Contributer Badge and lost it because I get reported for asking questions that I feel are good questions.

Yes, all of a sudden many people (including several of my contacts) were sporting the ugly orange "Top Contributor" badges.
Alas, I've also noticed that a bunch of people have gotten suspended in the last few days or gotten hit heavily with notices of violation!
So watch your back! And watch this movie:

I have no idea how I got a football badge. I've been answering a bunch of questions there during the downtime in here, but I don't really get many best answers....it's a weird system.

They don't just give it out..you gotta earn it. Hell, I wasn't even trying to get one in this section. I was just trying to come on here and talk about one of my favorite things in the world with people who like baseball as much as i do.
