I have been thinking a lot recently of getting a breast reduction. They are very heavy and get in the way of many things, such as swimsuits, dresses, dress shirts, etc. I am a 36DD and was wondering if that is not big enough to get a reduction or if I would be eligible? Also, what would my chances of being able to breastfeed in the future be?

Thanks! Everybody is so helpful so far... I'm starting to change my mind since they do not hurt me as much as they do other women. I'd rather live with them than scars!

If you have back pain you really should think about a reduction. I had one Feb 2006 (38J to 38C) and I do not regret it one bit.

Regarding the scars, mine are barely noticeable. A good PS and a good patient, as well as Scarguard and Mederma, work WONDERS on the scars.

Even if my scars were noticeable, ONLY my fiance sees them now, and frankly I would rather have scars than the back pain I had when my breasts were huge.

You would have to talk to a PS about insurance coverage regarding a reduction.

I would get surgery done again in a heartbeat if I had to.

A plastic surgeon will do a reduction, but unless it's causing other medical issues, it's not usually paid for by insurance. As for breast feeding, with any surgery to your breasts, there is a chance of loss of feeling and a loss of ability to breastfeed, but it is not a certainty that you will lose that ability. That is a risk your doctor would be able to give you better information on. The thing to keep in mind is that with reduction, there are usually very large and visible scars, unlike with an augmentation. You definately need to be certain your discomfort is enough that you are willing to live with large scars.

First of all look at your over all weight if you can stand to lose at least 10 pounds loose weight first it will reduce your size that way if you have the surgery then lose weight you won't wonder what happened to what you had. Really this happened to a few ladies I know that reduced then lost weight and reduced even more - 1 even had an increase because it looked so bad. Also Maidenform makes Minimizer bras with wide straps that reduce your size visually and place your breasts in a smoother position for buttons (hope that makes sense). I would try weight loss and minimizer bras over surgery since surgery can be so unpredictable. Good Luck!

My wife had a reduction last year and is over the moon with the results. She had it done in a private hospital in Birmingham at a cost of £5,000, but she says that was worth every penny. Good Luck if you decide to go ahead
