There is no "Leeward and Windard" coast. Both are groups of islands in the Caribbean Sea named because of their prevailing wind patterns. Leeward Islands, also known as the Lesser Antilles (down winds):

The Virgin Islands
Anguilla
St. Martin/Marten (Saint Martin (north part) and Netherlands Antilles (south part))
Saba (Netherlands Antilles)
Saint Eustatius (Netherlands Antilles)
Saint Bartholemy
Antigua
Barbuda
Saint Kitts
Nevis
Redonda (small and uninhabited)
Montserrat
Guadeloupe
Martinique

Winward Islands (upwinds):

Dominica
Martinique
Saint Lucia
Saint Vincent
The Grenadines
Grenada

The prevailing winds in the part of the northern hemisphere that most of North America occupies generally blow from west to east. That's why many storms affecting the continental US originate in the Pacific and eventually move across the country in an easterly direction.

So, for that reason, and in the general sense of the terms, I'd say the west coast would be the windward coast, and the east coast would be considered the leeward coast.

In theory, the West Coast is the windward coast. Upper-level winds, which drive global weather, move west-to-east.

On my last test I got it wrong so I'm gonna say winward is east. I figured the wind always comes from the west...but that didn't help.
