The pinnacle of live rather than tape bands would have to be the the Grateful Dead. Pretty much any jam band is better as a live experience. If the band sounds exactly like the album when you see them, why bother going?

I'd rather listen to and watch these:
The Rolling Stones. I like how Mick Jagger is all over the place.
Elvis Presley. One of the greatest performers ever.
James Brown. Funky and another one of the greatest performers.
The latter two aren't bands, but they're still great to watch.

Queens of the Stone Age..........They put on a Kick A♫♫ show. No breaks just one song after another..they never disapoint. I have seen them 5 times.
But.....I will listen anyday on the radio 2.

Im with emo murderer, GWAR is such a trip to watch live, I still have my fake bloodsoaked white shirt I took when I first saw them. It was such a gruesomely good time
