I am getting rid of an old gas stove as well as other metals. I was going to put these things on the curb for trash night but people say to take it to a scrap yard and they will pay by weight. Ive never scrapped anything...any idea what they pay? Just a round about example from your experiences. If its not worth it, Ill sit on the curb lol...thanks!

Your best bet is the curb idea. There are a lot of folks out there who make their living selling scrap that they collect from other folks who don't want it and don't have enough to make it worth their while to take it to the scrap yard themselves. It can be a lot of work, plus time, plus gas and you'd most likely need a truck. Besides, the price of steel and iron is down now from what it was last summer. Copper and brass are still comparatively high, but as the one fellow said, it takes a lot to make it a worthwhile trip.

If you have quite a lot of it then it's probably worth phoning around a couple of scrapyards and asking them what they are paying for "mixed scrap" then decide for yourself if it's worth the hassle of carting it down to them.
They will pay more for certain types of metal - copper , lead etc but they're talking fairly large amounts ( like half a ton or so ) Mixed scrap price is always the lowest.
Usually I just take mine to the tip and put it in the recycling but my friend saved it up (he's got room) and took a huge trailer load in and got £210.

more than likely its not worth it thats while our landfills are overflowing with waste. Its probably mad of steel rather than aluminum and I highly doubt there is copper in it. The best thing I can suggest is to look in your local phone book/yellowpages.com and look up a few numbers and give them a call to see if they will even take it. You may not get rich but depending on the drive(fuel cost) you may help the planet and get enough money for a few beers HaHa.

the best prices are for copper, aluminum, stainless steel and ...................... Plain iron doesn't bring much, but if you have a lot of weight. Everything needs to be seperated.
