The Republican desire to be Lorded over by Kings. Cause them to revere those that prosper from the demise of others.

Labor Unions did some great things not only for America but the world.

However they went too far, anyone who doesn't admit that the big steel unions were at least partially to blame for the downward spiral of the American Steel industry was never in a Steel town.

The day of the big powerful labor Unions is over as it should be. Now get off your butt and show the supervisor that you should get a raise on your own merit and not because the Union says to overpay you.

You can believe what you want, but who was it that pushed and got Tax breaks for everyone? Republicans and conservative Democrats.

Who was it that people laughed at and called his plan Voodoo economics with the "trickle down theory"?? Ron Reagan, a Republican who showed that when you give more money to the working people, they spend it, and that means factories have to hire people to replace the durable goods they bought. These new workers pay taxes, so Government is happy and the taxpayer is happy.

If the Conservatives or (republicans) as you call them, so big labor, why do Unions and such support the Democrats? Seems to me that the Labor Unions and big Business would all support the people who support them, but they all fall rank and file with the Democrats.

I do have one quick question for you. Democrat Charles Rangle has a tax bill he is trying to pass. If passed, in 2010 when the Bush tax cuts expire ( the democratic Congress wont make them permanent), a couple, both working and makings $100,000.00 dollars per year, will pay 44%. Not the high tax rate of 35.5% they now pay, but a whopping 44%.

This couple is considered middle America so, as usual, tax the working people to support their worthless causes.

When Unions were still a powerful force.

Products were still made in this country.
People had Job security.
People had Pensions and Benefits.
Many children had Mommy care not daycare.
We became thee super power.
The top 1% of had 12% of the wealth today That same 1% has 23% of the wealth

People complain about Union dues but they never complained about Union benefits.

Well, I missed the survey.

But in general, it's pay someone at a union salary and go under / accept corporate buyouts, or move offshore.

"Legacy costs

Ford and GM are at a crucial disadvantage compared with Toyota. They are burdened with the extra costs of paying benefits to all of their retired workers, who now far outnumber those still working for the company.

These legacy costs, which include both pension and retirement health care plans, cost the companies billions of dollars a year. Health care costs alone could add an additional $1,700 to the cost of each vehicle they make, Mr McAlinden estimates.

According to labour historian Nelson Licthenstein, when these contracts were first negotiated, UAW president Walter Reuther warned car companies in the 1940s that they were courting trouble by making long-term promises they might not be able to keep, and urged them to support national health insurance instead.

Japanese car imports
Japanese car imports undermined Ford and GM

But in the end Reuther signed the "treaty of Detroit," in which GM and Ford gave workers health and pension benefits and cost-of-living wage adjustments in return for industrial peace.

Now GM is down to 80,000 US workers, compared with 450,000 25 years ago.

And the companies say they cannot afford to pay the pension and health care costs of their 500,000 retirees."

The repKons have destroyed this nation.

Humorously, now they are all pissing their pants about how much they are losing as the dollar tumbles into oblivion because on their disastrous policies.

It will be more of a downtrodden masses slaughter the oppressors kind of thing. Reminiscent of the French Revolution.
