There are certainly a lot of troubles in this world. I dont think I know of the exact time I became aware that things were this bad. Might be when I first started hearing the problems seniors are having on YA. People should not have to make choices between food and meds and heat. All 3 should be a sure thing.

What a great question...
In my late teens & early 20's I decided to take my paedofile stepfather to court, after two heartbreaking years he walked free - aquitted of sexually abusing myself & my siblings - mainly due to incorrect police charges.
My world fell apart. I couldn't trust anyone, the system let me down. My mother supported me but a lot of other "family" friends went by the wayside - apparently the liar was more credible in court. I lost my job, I lost my relationship & at around the same time I lost a child through a miscarriage.
That was "hell in a basket" time for me.
However...that is now 15yrs ago & life has improved beyond belief. I got involved with a group of "survivors" of child abuse who are lobbying to change the laws in Western Australia so that other children do not have to suffer at the hands of the system when they have already suffered so much.
Being pro-active changed my views - the world is a better place for me now. I moved away, grew a lot within myself & although I will never forgive what happened to me it will not, & does not, define who I am.
My perception of life is great now - I have a loving partner & we are expecting a child - had you asked me 15yrs ago I would have told you that it would never happen for me...I'm so glad I would have been wrong!

No fear of God, authority. No respect for anything or anyone. No conscience. Then again, everyone is so busy trying not to hurt everyones feelings. Criminals that go through the revolving door. Murderers that get free room and board for life, 3 square meals a day all on our tax dollars. Yeah, pretty depressing. I could say much more but then they'd bleep me I'm sure. Things started going wrong in the late 70's.

I like to view the world for what it is. Going to hell in a hand basket. I wish it wasn't so, but everything I see and read is not comfortable. There are too many things to list and not enough time. And many are so important to keep abreast with. The economy, religous conflicts, politicans that cannot be trusted, health cost continue to rise, hollywood trying to dictate how we should think. And the list goes on and on.

My perspective of the world changed completely in my 40's. We moved into a small southern town and had plans to live out our lives there. We found out there was an illegal drug distribution center located across the street from our beautiful home. Very slowly we came to realize this was the town business and even the cops knew it. The FBI did nothing. I actually began to fear for our lives. We moved away sadder but wiser.
At about the same time Bill Clinton was pulling his crap.

I was happy till you reminded me that my life has gone to hell in a hand basket. Nah, I think (assuming you're american) you're feeling what many americans are feeling. It's not just you. Blame the politicians. In the words of Uncle Joe, "don't get me shtawted on the politicians..."

'm 52 now, and for me i sensed that things were really turning for the worse when in my early 40's. nothing is scared anymore. kids are out of control, parents don't care, their more worried about making money and spoiling their kids even more. the US., is spiraling down fast, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. and don't even get me going on the drug and gang, and immigration problems. i could write several pages of what is wrong . i truly pity the young, and what is yet to come

I turn 21 in a few days and I already feel like that...
I partially put it down to depression and partly to the fact that I had to grow up very fast.

Until I was 50. I have no control over the world, only control over myself. I also realized something about impressing people. All my life I was trying to impress people-parents, teachers, bosses-and then something came to me. What has the world done to impress me-nothing. A lot of people don't approve of a lot of things about me, such as what I wear, my religion, my lifestyle, etc. Well, that's just too bad. Why should I try to impress people who don't approve of me.
