The more mb, the better.
256 mb should do for 2008 games.
SHOULD!

Keep in mind that MB doesnt tell you how good (fast) a video card is!!!!

MB just tells you how much graphic processes can be stored on the cards memory, you can have a card like a geforce 6600 with only 128mb that will be faster than a gforce 5200 with 512 mb memory.
So pay attention to the graphic processor on that board and then go for more memory with the same processor.

Like if you have vista running you should get something from the geforce 8000 series having 512mb rather than 256mb

A few years ago, 256 mb of video memory was very good, but nowadays it's much less that average. I would recommend at least a 512 mb PCI-express video card as the minimum one should consider for upgrading their PC. Remember, the videocard companies are in the habit of introducing new, top-of-the-line cards about every six months or so. Which means that no matter what card you buy, it is almost certain to be obsolete within the next year or so. Right now, the newest, hottest videocards are what is called "direct-x 10" compatible, but there are only a few new games out that even take advantage of this newest technology. But, rest assured, more are on their way soon! I hate to give a company free advertising in this forum, but if you're looking for the best prices on a new videocard (top-of-the-line, or not) give newegg.com a look-see.

That could be good especially if it is ddr3 (fast).

BUT it's not really just the size of V-RAM but more of the GPU architecture that determines graphics card performance in games.

Some options for 2008 games:
Good= ATI HD 2600XT or Geforce 8600 GT or GTS
Best= ATI HD 3850 or 3870, Geforce 8800 series

256 is good for this years games unless it is an accelerator then it would be good for most games except like counter strike and stuff. But if you want 2 spend money your could go to a 512 but thats lotsa money...

More. But we need more details than just memory. Like type, core speed, etc.
