I would say that is pleased with his beard, and maybe wants to emphasize his masculinity. Also he might think that stroking it makes him look thoughtful and intelligent
Or maybe the activity is just a habit. All of this sounds normal to me.

It means absolutely nothing. You could make it mean something (which may or may not be good), or you can ask him why he's doing that. He'll tell you (if he can articulate it). If he can't articulate it, then it still means absolutely nothing.

i have a neat goatee. i find myself doing the same if uncomfortable or anxious. i dont think is is any diff. than nail biting. everyone has their little habits.
