Call of duty 4 prestige mode?

Say I decide to stay at level 55 when I unlock prestige mode, can I decide to go into prestige in the future?

I hope so, cuz I'm not planning on doing it for a while, I'm at lvl 40smthn and I don't wanna go into prestige, cuz I think its stupid... But I guess it should stay there forever, until you chose to do it, it will be there.
