I started out playing Trumpet in elementary school, and in middle school shifted to Baritone Horn in middle-school because I was "stocky" and could hold the instrument.

I played Baritone through High School, and also picked up the Trombone and French-horn as well. The baritone gets some great counterpoint tunes in Sousa marching tunes.

A good music store will help match your son to the correct instrument... lip shape and size can influence the choice.

GOOD LUCK

I even have spent years coaching youthful military cadets a thank you to play interior the marching band and that i play the trumpet in the main besides as any brass tool it fairly is needed, the clarinet and the alto sax. a million. Trumpet - basically has 3 keys so a number of of the observe version relies upon on the capability of the gamers mouth and their wind administration. 2. Trombone - slide positions require a number of of education to get suitable besides the undeniable fact that it demands much less mouth capability on the initiating 3. Sax - cool tool, greater costly to purchase, i prefer to propose taking part in the clarinet for no less than a three hundred and sixty 5 days till now commencing the sax 4. Clarinet - great starter reed tool 5. Baritone - 3 keys like the trumpet (precise same fingering) demands much less mouth capability then the trumpet 6. flute - demands a number of of wind administration and precise mouth positioning (i'm bias as i've got not been waiting to make one artwork) 7. Oboe (i'm uncertain if it fairly is performed interior the band) - Very complicated reed tool, no longer an excellent starter tool. it fairly is going to likely be least complicated for him to play an tool that his muscle tissues are greater for sure suitable for. have him flex all the muscle tissues around his mouth (smile and pucker on a similar time) if the muscle tissues on the facets of his mouth are more desirable then it fairly is going to likely be much less artwork to benefit a brass tool, if the muscle tissues on the suited and backside of his mouth are more desirable then he will have an much less complicated time with a reed.

Well... neither clarinets nor saxophones are brass instruments. They're both called "woodwinds," and many would resent you calling them that.

There is no "best" instrument, anyway. If you mean the instrument with the best parts, that'd likely be the trumpet, especially at first. Unfortunately, there are always lots of trumpets, so it's hard to be the best. I played both clarinet and bassoon through middle and high school, if it matters. I would recommend that he not play the flute unless he really wants to, because the two guys who played flute in middle school ended up quitting because too many people were making fun of them.
