For me it is because it annoys them, but then they don't really hurt me as much as my friends do.

First, some definition of terms (my version) ---

Friends - people who laugh and cry with me...people whom I trust and deeply care for...people whom I'd be happy to do things for...and no, they don't have to return the favor...and yes, you are one of them hon.

Enemies - ex-friends...people who seem to take pleasure in putting me down

To answer your question: I think it's a non-issue coz frankly hon I don't give a heck what my enemies do. What is there to forgive? They are nothing now and so whatever they do, I don't give a hoot! As for my friends, yes...the room to forgive is big and spacious. If they offend me and they are truly sorry, then it's all good in the hood.

But what if those words of apology were never spoken...what if the air still reeks of murky/stinky unpleasantness? That's another story, I guess.

No. It is easier for me to forgive my friends than my enemies. One can never be too confident with your enemies. They may have done you wrong once, there is a possibility they will do it one more time. They will stab you at the back if you give them another opportunity to do so. With my friends, I know their character and their personality. If we have misunderstandings, we can always thrash it out in the open, no back-stabbing and argue for all it's worth but in the end, we will always remain friends. We may have spats but it is easier to mend whatever rifts we may have because we all know each other very well. It is easy to forgive someone you know or ask forgiveness from them because you always know that forgiveness comes from the heart and will be accepted or given.

You might find this answer "plastic", but I general I do not take offense so there would be no need to forgive. I look at these things as "situations" and never bother whether or not there was malice in the act.

As a rule, I refuse to be affected. Live and let live.

yes, it is easier to forgive enemies because we couldn't care less for them. but if a friend hurts us, the pain is deeper and heals slower.

funny, i had this happen to me two days ago.

You expect your enemies to be jerks, so forgiveness for them is easy.

On the other hand you don't expect your friends to act like jerks so the injury is deeper.

yes it is. because when you forgive them you can forget about it easily but when it's a love one or a friend who hurts me it's hard to forgive and forget.

It doesn't matter who you forgive, what matters is you forgive.
