For me it was probably the time I swam about a quarter of a mile across a channel in water over my head and I didn't know how to swim. I was with some older kids who could swim; but I could just dog paddle. When we got to the other side, we were in about 30 feet of water, and there was no way out. What had looked like a low warf from a quarter of a mile away, turned out to be about 10 feet above the water. I had to swim back to the beach where we started in order to get out. I magically found he energy to keep going. After that, even though I still couldn't really swim, I never had a fear of deep water.
