One common property of metamorphic rocks is the re-melting and re-crystallization of their constituent minerals. In fact, this property alone almost defines metamorphic rocks.

Basically, some rocks change by re-crystallization to something that they weren't before. The above two answers are correct, but they did not go far enough.

Shale can change into slate.
Limestone can change into marble.
Bituminous coal changes into anthracite coal.

It is a matter of heat and pressure.

I think he is talking about cleavage. Foliation is a feature but I wouldn't call it a property.
