My pick is the Royals. They seem to be serious about making their team a contender again. While I'm not saying they going to the playoffs or clinch the Division i think they going to have a better record than anyone expects.

Wow. I'm surprised by your pick and I totally agree. I don't think many people besides myself and my fellow Royals fans here in KC have noticed that Dayton Moore and David Glass are making a real go at improving the Royals. They played tough last year with a lot of young guys at key positions and key spots in the order. Personally, I'm looking for small improvements form them. Last year, they didn't lose 100 games for the first time in 4 years, this year I'm looking for something close to a .500 record. They'll surprise a lot of people. They've got some good pitching - Meche is better than his record dictates, Greinke can be flat out unhittable at times and Bannister just gets people out. Moore has improved the bullpen and is looking to improve the offense this year. If they can find a way to win half of the 1 or 2 run games they lost last year, they're an 83 win team.

You get a star and GO ROYALS.

Royals are a good pick, but I'm going with the Rays. People right now reading this are saying I'm crazy, I've lost it, kick him out of this section.

Now the Rays have had a long, long history of being awful at the best. They haven't not finished in last only one time(04). But right now they have almost all the pieces in place. Great offense, Two star pitchers, all they need to do this off season is find a reliable arm in the bullpen and they could be contenders. The bullpen is what hurt them last year. If they can get 1 or 2 solid arms, along with another solid starter, expect them to win 85 or so games. I'm serious.

San Francisco In the short time that Singletary had full control, he brought the 49ers up to respectability. He showed that team discipline. Now that he has officially cleaned house and is going to go back to a more traditional offense with Gore pounding the rock, they will be able to keep themselves in more games. Then there is their division, the NFC West. The Cardinals will have a Super Bowl slump after the loss of both of their coordinators and their Super Bowl QB. Leinart will have to put up or shut up and the defense will have to learn a new system. The Seahawks are in for a let down with Mora. Their QB is breaking down along with their line and their defense needs a lot of work. St. Louis is in rebuilding mode also.

The Kansas City Royals. They have ALOT of young talent. By surprise-I also don't mean playoffs-but I think they can be a potential 3rd place team in the Central-lets face it though-Indians are the class of that Division and going nowhere with that young team for a long time to come.

I would say the Mariners. They were one of the surprise teams last season and have money to spend this offseason. They are the frontrunners for Japanese star pitcher Hiroki Kuroda and already have Felix Hernandez, Jarrod Washburn, and Miguel Batista. Beltre is a gold glover at third base and Sexson will be in a contract year. The outfield is solid and they have one of the best bullpens in baseball which is crucial to winning. Really I think they have a shot at the division as they had a shot last season and if they don't win the division, the AL Wild Card is still a possibility.

i know i will most likely be wrong but the pirates are under new ownership and have a new gm and they are both willing to spend a little more money and they do have some young talent plus add in vets like jack wilson, jason bay, adam laroche, and xavier nady, i think they may be at least surprising us with around a .500 season but not likely a playoff berth or division title

I HOPE the Royals. The White Sox in that same division is my choice. I really think that last year, not 2005, was the aberration. Both would be cool in the toughest division in baseball.

The Atlanta Braves are going to the World Series if they get their pitching back on track. They seem to choke when it comes to the final games because the relievers can't hold onto the leads that are given to them. This year ( '08 ) they'll make their comeback with Smoltz ,Glavine ,Hudson , and Helton .

in the NFL i hope the chiefs because if green bay wins the SB this year and the chiefs get rid of Rayner that would mean something.
2005:Dave Rayner kicked for Indy but was cut after picking up Vinateri
2006: Indy won the SB And GB added rayner
07: If Green Bay wins the SB and KC cuts rayner we mite have a curse.
