Servers and hostesses actually perform a wide range of valuable tasks for their employers. It's mostly your ability to sell those skills and shape them into something that fits the potential employer's needs that makes the difference between a resume that stands out and one that looks like every other 17 year-old girl's...

First, good servers are excellent mullti-taskers. If you're going into the administrative field, the skills you've developed handling eight tables of grumpy old couples while not forgetting the bread, water, desert, etc, of 5 other tables, and doing it while keeping customer service foremost in your mind will serve you well in reception, customer service, or human relations.

Second, serving is a physicaly challeging position. I'm not suggesting that you go into construction, but highlight the fact that you're capable of moving/carrying/manipulating heavy trays, dishes, etc.

Finally, you're probably at least decent with managing money. You've got to tip out busboys, etc, and probably manage big piles of cash at the end of th enight, when you're exhausted, it's late, and all you want to do is settle your account and go home.

Hey, that's probably enough for now, good luck!

If you want to spice it up a bit, you are often a "foods and beverage consultant" and if you are any good at keeping track of your orders, you are an "expiditer."

I would add those to the list of skills...
