Yes it does for distance. They do weigh more but you can hit alot farther if you can fit the bat to your Height and Weight.

First of all a larger bat barrel will not weigh more. There are plenty of bats with the same weight and length with different circumferences of the barrels. The different barrels are mainly used for your preference. Wider barrels are better for line-drives and looping fly balls to get in between the outfielders and infielders. The smaller barrels give you more power since the force is concentrated on a smaller area along with a smaller bat barrel being pressurized a bit more.

It depends on the batter. The most important thing while swinging is to be able to have a smooth level swing on the down swing. If the bat is too top heavy for the batter then that will result in dips in the swing and more pop outs and strike outs. If you cant hit a ball cleanly off a tee with just your left arm(if you are right handed), then the bat weighs too much.

It depends on what you mean by "better". A larger barrel will be heavier, so you probably won't be able to swing it as fast. However, the larger diameter will allow more contact, though this would mostly be in the form of foul balls (which aren't bad, as far as extending your at-bat).
