If the contractions don't go away when she eats or changes her level of activity, they are not braxton hicks. At this point they are real contractions. Once they are 5 minutes apart, the hospital will keep her. It could take a while for them to get that close. I was in labor for having contractions for 36 hours before my contractions got to 5 minutes apart, ended up being a 42 hour labor. The best thing you can do is just comfort her. If she has approval, have her take a nice warm bath. That was all the hospital told me I could do to releave the pain during stage 1 of labor. Good luck, and just be gentle and comforting.

Stevo, your wife is in early labour, you might not be getting much sleep tonight, if this is your first baby and you are unsure, phone the hospital and tell them you think your wife is in labour and that you are on your way up the hospital, that way they can put the monitor on her to find out how far the labour is. If it is a false alarm they will just send you home. Thats what i done, but as they were about to send me home, they checked and found i was 7cms dilated so i had to move into a delivery ward. Good luck DAD. Wish your wife well too.

It could be a sign of early labor. I think that her contractions should intensify in tightness and come closer together when it gets closer to her time to deliver though. She may have to wait a bit or it could happen fast. These things are unpredictable. If it's her first child it is more likely to take a while though.

Sounds like the early stages of labour. Wouldnt hurt to call the hospital anyway and see what they say. Try and keep mobile if poss, seems to speed things up. But good luck to you both, one thing is for sure we can definately say it will be here soon.

Sounds like early labor. If they start getting closer like 5 to 8 min for an hour, it's time to go in. Good luck.

If they have been all day it is probably a good idea to go get her checked out. Some women don;t GET them much closer than that. And many of us don;t experience real "pain" until pretty far into labor.

If they are consistently every 10 minutes, I'd say you're ready to have a baby.
