Ok, here it is. This guy is emailing me and he is a police officer. I want to ID him somehow. I am not sure how. I have already asked him for his badge number, does he have to provide it to me by law? How else can I ID him? thanks..please, only serious answers.

Over email? Usually they'll call or make a personal visit. When he gives you a badge number, look up the phone number of the department he claims to be a member of. Call them, explain that you've been contacted by an Officer such-and-such with this badge number, and ask to speak with him directly if he's in. Some things probably shouldn't be done online.

How do you know he's a police officer?

Because he says so? If he's a real cop, emailing you on real police business, his email address will be something like "officer.plod@pd.newberry.gov" - if it's "officer.plod@hotmail.com" then he's just someone messing with you.

It's FAR more likely that it's the second (Unless YOU emailed the police to ask about something, and this is a reply) Cops do NOT usually communicate with suspects by email.

My advice... ignore him. If he IS a real cop, he'll get in touch with you another way. If he told you what PD he claims to be on, you could also call them and get their internal affairs departments email address, and forward his emails to them.

The absolutely free reverse email lookup sites generally provide false information, they just want your email to send you spam. To get real information, money will have to be paid.

Also, stay away from shady reverse email lookup sites, most likely you won't get any information after you make the payment. Not to mention you won't get a report and you won't get an answer if you try to call for a refund. Stick with a reputable reverse phone lookup site like http://www.emailtracer.org that has been around since 1997.
