Monumental.The Romans could fight other religions that had idols as gods.They couldn't fight people that worshipped in Spirit and in Truth.Nothing to destroy except the Christians themselves.And the more that were slaughtered the more martyrs the Faith had,and the numbers of Believers grew exponentially.Eventually,Rome died from moral decay,not from outside invaders.
