If you are losing your national identity that's down to you, not Scots. Maybe the English have just never had as strong a cultural identity as us Scots. You've been conquered so many times after all. First the Romans, then the Saxons, then the Normans. Scots don't hate "you" (by using "you" I am referring to England). This is all in your paranoid little brain.

I agree with the first answerer. I find your question incredibly insulting & offensive as well.

We had to endure Thatcher for years in Scotland. Thatcher was voted in, when you come to think of it, by an English majority. She used Scotland as a guinea pig for all of her controversial plans (like the Poll Tax). You don't hear Scots sayingthey hate the English becuase of that though. Only that they hate Thatcher. Grow up & stop being a moron!

Oh don't talk rot. Not all Scots hate English people.

I'm Welsh/British and I'd say the reason we Brits are losing their identity and pride is because this Government is useless. It has nothing to do with being Scots or English or whatever. Thatcher was English and look at the mess she left the country in. "New" Labour is no better.

Blair was a liar, Brown hasn't been in power long enough to prove himself any better or worse (I don't have high hopes though, he's already lost our Child Benefit records and taken a load of backhanders and bungs from his rich cronies) but don't attack his heritage because you don't like him. Being Scottish has nothing to do with it.

What we need is a real Welsh Socialist like Nye Bevan to sort this country out. He'd be spinning in his grave at the antics of the shower who currently call themselves "Labour" politicians.

I will honestly say that I know nothing about the politics of the UK. But it sounds to me like you are rationalizing your dislike for your prime minister by attacking his heritage, and not debating the reasons you dislike him.

My real answer is for B. D Mac above, who gave her ridiculous answer without the knowledge to what this question pertained. It's a perfect example of the blind, misled anger toward Bush that I really despise. It shows exactly how uninformed these people are, mouthing off the same nonsense they've been fed by the media. It's a fitting answer to this question, since the asker seems to be of the same mindset. I suspect that if you replace "Bush" with "Gordon Brown" in B. D Mac's answer, the asker would choose it for winner.

"his own personal Lemming!" B. D Mac
Hilarious!

It's quite simple, people only recognise unfairness when it affects them. No-one south of the border batted an eyelid when Scottish affairs were governed by English votes for almost 300 years. No-one gives a toss that the power to block the current bill to give the Welsh Assembly law-making powers is in the hands of overwhelmingly English MP's! I'm sure the West Lothian question will be resolved soon as English voters are too large a bloc to ignore, and I personally support the idea of English votes for English issues, but it is quite amusing to see the resentment and astonishment now the boot is, for once, on the other foot!

I guess you're English? First, I thought it was the United Kingdom that London's Parliament ruled over, not just England? If that's the case, then you really aren't being ruled by Scots, are you? Second, you brought this on yourselves--maybe your great great grandfather did. Scots didn't want to be part of an United Kingdom anymore than the Welsh or the Irish did, but the English insisted on dominating all three of those countries, taking away their weapons, their languages and their traditions--or, at least, trying to. Now that they are part of this United Kingdom, you cry about it. Perhaps your ancestors should have left mine alone to live their own lives and then you wouldn't have a Scottish PM!

Where on earth do you get:

1. We are ruled by the Scots (Last time I checked the idiots in the White House are not Scots!

2. That the Scottish Americans or the Scots in Scotland hate us?

As to National identity and Pride, we lost that when we let Bush destroy the integrity of our Government and fostered hatred toward anyone who was not a right-wing "American" that acted as his own personal Lemming. He thumbed his nose at every other country and took a respect that most countries had for the United States and turned it and us into the most hated country in the world!

He turned our National identity into a bunch of moronic, arrogant idiots! As to pride, how can we be proud of torturing people, and never working with any country while attacking other countries without provocation and occupying it, claiming to be spreading Democracy. All the while they destroyed every shred of Democracy both here and in Iraq.

Most of us Scots don't actually hate the English, we just find the self-pitying whinging of questions such as yours a bit tedious.

When it comes to sporting events, we mostly enjoy watching England lose because we find the laughably gung-ho attitude of the media (who alway seem to build England up as predestined champions of any event you deign to take part in) bloody irritating so when your teams fail to live up to your inflated expectations there is a highly amusing element of watching the braggart fall flat on his face.

it is a rather simple matter all the English have to do is say that they dont want Scotland to be linked with them anymore and give us independence that way the majority will be happy

You know, petty nationalism is as stupid as sports fanaticism.

I don't mean to be insulting, but England has become so sad. Seriously, no one else in the world could tell a Scot from a Welsh, or Britain or whoever.

No one cares! England is dull! Why else would it try so hard to latch on to the US? The US sucks too; like England it is self important and self centered.

Go someplace with a real problem, like, oh I don't know, Iraq? Anywhere in Africa?

England is wealthy and intelligent. Worry about bettering the world with this wealth and intelligence.
Scots? No one cares.
