My son and his little 2 year old girl live temporarily with us. However, due to the new neighbors who moved in below us, complaining constantly about the 2 year old, running, jumping, etc. My husband and myself are afraid that eventually we will get evicted because of the continued complaints. Anyway, my son works and makes $10.60 an hour, and he has a car that the payments are $324.00, but he has the little girl. Does anyone have any idea, if this would prevent him from getting housing assistance or WIC or foodstamps for him and the little one?

I'm not sure what the maximum amount earned can be for 2 people, but make sure that he does let them know that he is staying with you right now (as someone else mentioned). Housing assistance is terribly hard to get, unfortunately. However, WIC (which is for up to 5 years old) is not so hard to get and most of the time if you qualify for WIC, you also qualify for food stamps.

Suggestion: Go to a re-sale store (Salvation Army, etc), and buy as much carpetting as you can get, and put it on the floor, and then limit the toddler's access to that area; she'll probably love the bouncy feeling and texture! Also, consider going to a carpet store, and ask for any free remnants (if they say, "no", just scavenge the remnants from their dumpster after hours (warning: it is considered trespassing to do so, and you could injure yourself, which would lead to medical bills; however, I've done it many times to help out animal shelters, as well as for schools that needed it for their theatrical presentations); the disposed remnants are usually quite clean, though renting a carpet cleaner from a grocery store or similar wouldn't hurt). Do NOT use the foam padding on its own, as toddlers might find it a tempting morsel which they might choke on.

It depends on the state that you are in. Some states have temporary(sp) assistance, I think WIC is only for infants so that is prob a no. He doesn't make too much money (I wouldnt think) but my best advice would be to go and check with the social services office.

the only thing i can say is tell him to try and find out it really depends on where you live at as to what help you will get. make sure he tells them that they are living with you as it might get him more help.
