Unless you bought a lot of shoes at once, that $125 is back taxes my friend. You can more than likely thank the recent recalls in toys for lead, and basically all the other problems with items shipped from China lately. The US government has cracked down and scrutinzed much more the imports that come from China. So what probably happened was that you had been getting these shoes for a while without paying import taxes and suddenly because of the US customs crackdown they caught what was going on with the company and "fixed it". Basically, the didnt catch it before and now they realized the company wasnt doing something right and are charging you for these plus your other items. See, US enforcement does have its downside.

I'm afraid you are expected to pay taxes on imported goods, the same way you are expected to pay sales tax on locally purchased goods. If you haven't paid them in the past, it is because the post office didn't know what was in the packages (probably because the mailer didn't declare the contents properly). Sorry for the bad news.

That stinks. I dont think its fair that you should have to pay back taxes or whatever because the government or customs messed up. Its their fault and they should be responsible, not you. I just wouldn't pay it.
