A platform bed is relatively easy. I've crafted a few in my time.

Determine the size you want/need; IE: Twin/Full/Queen/King, and the size of a metal frame. You can even use a metal frame and frame it.

Then there is the choice of design. The last one I made LOOKED like it was floating; with the 1x stock recessed beneath the box spring. I created a wall sized headboard; which helped support the bed; and to that added WING/ night tables which also "floated"

Essentially you're building an open box. I prefer 1x stock braced with 2x2 stock. I usually counter sink bolt and screw holes and add plugs.

You can be more elaborate and frame the base to the perimeter of the box spring and add drawers.

You can have the stock wide enough/high enough to hide the box spring if you choose.
