d^2 - 5d=3d^2 + 1

it is a quadratic equation and your aloud to round to the neareth hundred if necessary

2d^2+5d+1=0 --- rearrange

[-5 +/- sqrt(25-8)]/4 = d --- Q.F.
[-5 +/- 4]/4 = d
d = -1/4 and -9/4

here is a hint

move everything from one side of the equal sign to the other, it should look something like


blabhlbhal = 0.

then from there

factor the equation

it should look something like

(d +/- unknown 1) ( d +/- unknown2) = 0

It would be d=-2.28 and -.22.
