If you don't know what you want, then there is no object of want. Thereby negating want. You cannot have want without an object of want. Therefore, you don't want anything. If you already have it, then it's not a want, is it? It's a have. :)
Wow... that was fun confusion. :)

Even without an object of want, there can still be a sense of want.
Based on a feeling that the puzzle is not complete, it may well be that in fact we already have all that we need to satisfy that requirement of life.
The problem is to satisfy ourselves that we are satisfied with that we have and then the sense of want will disappear.
Unfortunately we live in a world where we are programmed to want!

Good point well made....
I think first off we should be grateful for the things that we do have in life people buy bigger houses, have more kids, change careers, get another degree, move to another location buy a newer car, take another expensive vacation buy more clothes etc... etc.. etc... In the end we should be happy for the simple things in life the birds the valuable friendships and family and co-workers around us the at cup of tea and coffee in the morning...that we wake up and its another morning we stress ourselves out and kill ourselves to wanting more and more and it is never enough most people like this feel empty maybe volunteering your time for a good cause and helping others so that you can be grateful in your own life for people that need a hand can teach you this...I am always happy for what God gives me and count my blessings every day of my life :)))

So true! We don't know we already have it, most of the time.
Take for instance 'enlightenment'. Most people do not know they already are (enlightened) and most do not even know they want that. We ignore it and pursue what we think we want, such as material possessions, fame, etc.
Of course we can choose to live out our lives blind and not see. We are afraid of the truth and are taught to fear the 'truth'. We rely on systems, institutions (such as religious organizations) to help us. When we begin to see the truth and start trying to wake people up we are attacked and put down. It is the nature of this world. One day we will all awake to the truth. Nothing can stop us ......
Thanks for your question.

You don't until it's gone. Then you realize.. everything you wanted was right under your nose, the whole time.
