I recently got new ISP service and couldn't get a signal through my router, so I directly connected one computer to the modem and it worked. Went back to connect to the router to the network then into my computer, and it didnt work again. So I went into my router to tinker around and I came across one setting with the option of using "DHCP or use specified IP address" (for the router). It was originally click on use ip address, then i clicked use DHCP. Now I cannot access my router anymore. the IP is different for the router, and I have no idea what it is. I've checked the IP I was getting through CMD>ipconfig and saw it was the ISP's IP address, not my router. I have also tried resetting the router by itself, but to no avail. Can anyone help me? I held the reset button on the router for more than 30 secs, and it still has the same problem. Is there any way to find out the new IP address of the router, since it is not the original anymore? THANKS. Real answers only please.

Try disconnecting the router from the internet period. Then connect a WIRED computer to one of the outlets and reboot the router. Once the router has completely reboot, restart your computer.

When the computer comes back up click Start --> Run and type "command" that will bring up a black dos screen.. on that type
ipconfig /all

It should show your IP address for your computer and a "GATEWAY" address.. That address is the ROUTER!
Log into it WITH OUT the internet being connected!!! Once logged in check to see its addresses!

Now connect your computer directly to the internet modem. Check the same ip settings. If the gateway shows the same address as the router was (It is not in the circuit at the time) you have a NATTED modem using the same address as your router.

Some of the DSL /Internet Providers today are using modems with NAT enabled, its entirely possible you have a nated modem using the exact same network address as your router. If that is the case, you will have to log into the MODEM first and set it to BRIDGE mode! Then reconnect the router!

You can also change the LAN address range of the router, that also works! SO if you currently have a 192.168.0.x lan setting make it 192.168.2.x etc just different to the modems setting.

By the way the hardware reset is done with the INIT button.
Hold it down for about 5-6 seconds till the Diag light turns red. Then release it wait for the reboot. That should restore the factory settings for Buffalo!

Been there Done that a few times.

Good Luck and God Bless

(Sorry but in this case Crown is well just WRONG about ICS. Having a natted router first in line off the internet prevents anyone from directly accessing ANY COMPUTER on the lan. The safe factor is with a router first before any computer and no port forwarding in the router!!!! This blocks any inbound request period - its stopped DEAD no firewall needed.)

I had a similar problem when I switched my ISP as well. Many times this is a setting they install on your system when they first do the initial connection. Then when you connect the router, it works for a while but then drops the ISP's signal.
To bypass this annoyance I have my server connected directly to the modem. I installed an extra NIC into the server, so that I can use the Internet Sharing Service. I then connected a cable from the new NIC to the router. ICS is already set up as the DHCP Client. The router then connects to all other systems, and works flawlessly.
This also has a few security advantages. Only one computer is connected direct, so if someone can get into that one, they are still blocked from all of the others. The server never looses/drops the connection. And the router never has to be reset. I have many other troubleshooting tips and tricks at my site below under the Network Talk section.
Hope this helps

linksys is a more popoular brand. If you won one of each why not rey one for a month or so, then swap and try the other and see if you notice any differences.
