Clifford the dog and his owner Emily Elizabeth called him Big Red ( Well I think she did. )
Anyway......
The huge fire hydrant is to do with the fact that Clifford is a giant dog and a giant dog needs a giant fire hydrant.
I haven't read Clifford books since I was little and I haven't seen the series in ages either.
