Increased numbers of drivers on existing roadways. More cars on the same road equals more congestion which produces more instances of road rage.
Poor schedule management. People, now more than ever, try to do too much in a day and get behind schedule. People who are late and driving somewhere tend to react more aggressively to other drivers.
General lack of consideration of other people. Self centered people commit actions on the road that are inconsiderate and may anger other drivers. Consequence? More road rage.
Cell phones and other distractions (radio, GPS, PDAs, DVD players in vehicle, etc.). People who are distracted while driving make poor driving decisions and endanger other drivers. Their actions produce more feelings of rage in other drivers.
Poor roadway design. There are many observable flaws in every city's infrastructure that affect the flow of traffic and are too expensive to fix. Improperly maintained and poorly designed accessways cause stress for drivers, which causes more road rage.

There are several factors that have caused road rage to escalate. The first one is increased traffic on the highways and roads causing more passing and congestion. Another is that people are in too big of a hurry and do not leave themselves time to get to where they are going. Another is cell phones...people are talking to their buddies and think it makes them seem tougher, cooler, meaner...what ever...to their friends if they scream, cuss, flash their headlights, tailgate or run off the road another driver. As a cross country driver, I encounter road rage daily...I have been luckier than some of my other brother and sister drivers and have not been shot by some nut with a gun in a four wheeler that is exhibiting road rage...but I do get told I am number one often...ho hum! lol ...I prefer the little kids pumping their arms at me with a big smile wanting to hear my air horn blow...they make my day!

Basically, it's an increase in impatience on the part of many of us, coupled with the pathetic example of grisly manliness held forth by the neo-Con crowd characterized by the cretin we have for a vice-President.
Yes, I've encountered incidents of road rage. One damn fool decided I wasn't going fast enough so he kept running up behind my Geo with his six-wheel delivery truck and bumping into the rear of my car. We got to an intersection, I got out and confronted him, and fists flew. I got in a couple good licks before his pard grabbed me and just as the cops got there. The A*hole lost his job driving delivery trucks and I wound up with a busted wrist. You tell me who won that one.

I have to say, old people driving are worse than teens and drunks put together; I live in South Florida and literally every time I go out, there they are, right in front of me, oblivious, weaving in and out of their lane into mine and going about 10 MPH. It's a good thing murder is illegal! Today, for e.g., I was driving to work and this car was drivinig so erratically I had to look and see who was driving and sure enough, it was an old lady, totally in her own old lady zone, unaware of anyone else...I think they believe they are at home sitting in a recliner.
On the way home, same thing...unbelievable and they refuse to allow testing for drivers over 75!!!! There are, right now, in Palm Beach County, at least 100 or more drivers over the AGE of 100!!!!!

NASCAR and drunken fans getting out on the roads, after the race is over and their man didn't win. They drive like they are going to win the race for their man.
I had an idiot tail gating me in a truck covered in NASCAR crap and had to hold up my Glock G22, rack the slide so he could clearly see it through window, and he backed off.
Problem solved, no one got shot. :D

Arrogance.
My b/f and so many others drive entirely too fast, get mad at others who aren't flying, or getting out of their way because they are arrogant.
They, like entirely too many people, think the whole world should just get out of their way......even when they have no place to go.
