I like many was opposed to the war from the beginning however since we have been invested in the war for almost 5 years isn't it a relief that finally there is significant drop in killings on both sides?

A 60+% drop in deaths since June is good news!
I hope it brings the troops home soon!

Now finally the different civilian groups in Iraq are joining the U.S. side!
I am cautiously optimistic in this development!

benni: The reduction in deaths is good! This isn't going to just magically end and our troops be pulled out tomorrow!
Let's at least be appreciative of positive developments when they occur!
Of course I wish none were killed but 38 is less than 101 in June.
Maybe by next month it will be less than 38! Let's hope anyway!
btw, I live in the real world. Thanks.

Too bad we had rummy at the helm all those years - we might have been able to end this thing in 04.

Published numbers of deaths don't measure anything other than published numbers of deaths, and always be suspicious of figures provided by any military. In Vietnam the Washington Post reported that US soldiers had killed 125 "Viet Cong" in a battle that eye witnesses observed 15 dead civilians. I wouldn't limit myself to one news source, if I were you, since there is no such thing as "objective" news reporting. Particularly deal gingerly with commercial news sources, since these are controlled by their stockholders and boards of directors and manned by for the most part uncourageous journalists, and like most of the presidential candidates, they give little truth and less substance and they often seem to serve more as spokemen of the US government (some, like Fox News, unabashedly so). Read sources from other countries than the United States as well. I have just given you a few possible alternatives below.

Fewer deaths are good all around. There have been military improvements in Iraq, but at what price? 175,000 US troops plus at least that many 'private armies', a cost of $1.2 trillion, almost 6 years, and still there is almost no political or civil improvements. I wouldn't count on US troops coming home anytime soon. We'll have a force of at least 100,000 US troops in Iraq well into the next decade at least.

Yes, progress has been made, but we are still pouring billions of dollars into Iraq every month, and we can't keep the troops at its current strength for much longer. there is still little hope that the Iraq fiasco will have a happy ending, is there?

Yes this is great news. It seems the Iraqis have decided to find common ground and put aside their differences to achieve a shared goal.
This is good news for the US, and better news for Iraq.

It is wonderful. I do believe that the surge worked. Since that idea belonged to the Generals on the ground in Iraq isn't it a good idea to have them continue to win this war instead of letting Congress mess it up?

That is Bush's propaganda, this surge didn't do a thing but cause more hate for America and these lies that Bush keeps spreading. Just 1 body a day is way to many , because their fighting over a lie that Bush and Cheney spread around, would you like to know you are dying for a half wit and Al Capone and a bunch of thugs and corrupt that caused a Broken Nation and hated Country.

You're cute. I don't think you can bait a neocon into agreeing that 'things are good so let's bring home the troops!'
They'll say we need to stay there until all violence stops, which will never happen in any occupied country anywhere in the history of our species.
