I have to write a 10 pg paper on this topic. I need to make an economic analysis. I cant find any information on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I didn't know they had one either, and have had a quick look but haven't found much. Without wishing to be insulting to you, are you sure you don't mean the 1780s when there were really difficult times, part of the cause of the Revolution? If it is really the 1880s however, the only clue seems to be that the France economy was slowly picking up, but France was later than Britain and Germany in the race towards industrialization and so faced a lot of competition from them in trade. France had also lost the Rhineland industrial regions, notably Alsace Lorraine, as a result of the Franco Prussian war, so maybe was still having to recover from that economically and build up new industrial centres.
Hope this maybe gives you a few starting points for research.

I didn't know they had one. That would take some very specialized sources; even the economics of the US in the 1890s, which despite the phrase "gay 90s" really sucked, is not easy to find 10 pages of info on it. However, part of their problem may be linked to the failure of the Panama Canal Company.
