i washed my husbands wool sweater today for the first time since we purchased it. When i pulled it out of the washer it had a horrible potent smell. kinda like a mixture of mildew and urine...is this normal? should i rewash it?

Wool smells very bad when you wash it.
You should never wash wool. Besides the unpleasant smell, it will shrink.
If your wool gets dirty, have it professionally washed.
I know that even when my wool sweaters get wet from the rain, I smell like a dog!

You have the natural wet wool smell but also the coloring agents. I suspect your stink is the processing chemicals.

I guess I'm wondering what type of wool sweater you have that you are putting it thru the washer? Well anyway, you might want to stick to dry cleaning in the future.

Do not even attempt to wash a wool sweater again. You should never get wool wet! It shrinks! Try taking it to the dry cleaners the next time you need to wash it and then buy a dryel set....It will be extremely helpful.

Do NOT rewash it.

stretch it out to air dry, flat, on a clean dry towel.
You will probably need to stretch it to the size it was before washing. If you didn't use hot water, that may not be too hard.
If you used hot water, it is probably hopeless.
