You ever wondered why, throughout the history of human civilization, less than 300 million people, in less than 250 years, have created the world's greatest empire? We're all human beings on this planet, just like everybody else. Nothing special about us, in terms of the way we're made. There's nothing really special about where we live. It's how we have organized ourselves and conducted ourselves. That question alone, and its answer, creates awe in me.

The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution of the United States, The Bill of Rights.
No other country comes close to having such brilliant doctrines as these. No other country can or has produced the amount of inventions or accomplishments we have in our short life as a country and most of the have had thousands of years to do it in. Where else can I vote for whom I want without fear of gov't reprisal? I can freely practice my religion here. My country at least purports to recognize that I have inalienable rights and others too many to list. We don't circumsize our women as a practice of state. We don't encourage suicide bombings to sort out differences. You and I can have a heated discussion and hopefully come up with a solution to the worlds problems. We can become anybody we want to become through hard work and tenacity. Most of us would place our lives on the line for a fellow American. We for the most part care about the well being of our neighbor and their children. The list goes on and on. And we are free to change our government without fear of being captured and mutilated.
FREEDOM!!!!

Because of the foundation upon which its built. The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, the American Revolution. Because our system of government is the greatest ever devised by human beings. And because once upon a time we were the example to be followed and the shoulder to be leaned on.

"Is America a weakling, to shrink from the work of the great world powers? No! The young giant of the West stands on a continent and clasps the crest of an ocean in either hand. Our nation, glorious in youth and strength, looks into the future with eager eyes and rejoices as a strong man to run a race."

Among the many reasons, for me, is the right of individuals to express themselves -- even if they're idiots. Present company excluded, of course... ;-)

Which country?

I'm going to assume America (no other country in the world presses the idea that one must love their own country no matter what as much as America does). Personally, I could take it or leave it.

It seems that it is neither better or worse than most other countries. It is full of well-intentioned good people who are always misled by evil people out for their own power.

But then, what country isn't?
