say America needs more freedom?! Thought of the Moment:

If you want total security, go to prison. There you're fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking... is freedom. -Dwight D. Eisenhower, U.S. general and 34th president (1890-1969)

It's funny that many arguing for the conservatives are making the liberal argument - that freedoms and security are not mutually exclusive.

And yet it's the current fake-conservatives who argue that if we oppose taking away protections of our basic freedoms, we are risking our security.

If someone does a basic check on the previous responder's contentions about what was done after prior terror attacks, they'd find that the claims of "nothing done" are totally factually false (all those rotting in jail for the '93 WTC attack would argue against the idea that nothing was done). Also, the Cole was something that was not officially attributed to Al Qaeda until after Bush took office, so the inactivity on the Cole would be put at Bush's feet.

Does that make all these responders flip-floppers?

I support the one idea and that is this world has turned to SH. And there isn't any other way to put it. Every country is bulling the other, brother against brother, anti christian against christian, alternative lifestyle issues gain priority with the ACLU when they should be caring about the returning American Soldier and how they will live if they've lost their original jobs...I mean, what the H, anyway. You want to know something that NO ONE...and I mean NO ONE has done? Have you ever seen the 'most wanted' posters all over, and how they age the kiddies 5 years to show what they may look like now, or conviced escaped criminals and what they would look like now. Well, realistically not one single government or police agency has done that. What do you think bin Laden would look like if he were aged 5 years, dumped the turbin and white garb he wearing, shave his beard and mustache, got a new hair cut, put on a business suit or some other chick men's stuff, blow dried his hair into a new style, had someone establish him a new ID then shoot them after they had completed it. Had deposited millions into a banks in China, because Hong Kong is only a few hours flight away, some 18 months or so before 9/11, made those stupid tapes they sent over to us well before the attack, and is now sitting there controlling his people from whereever he is with disposable cell phones. Try to keep in mind that this man graduated with a business major is was a business man before he was anything else. Now how many business people do you know that didn't speak English now do? This man is not stupid and he's not the type of person who is going to waste away in some dumb cave hidden in the mountains. In a news article that I had read on Yahoo from the AP said that his people have not seen him in years. Now, how long do you think he's been gone? Remember, he's much more intelligent than Sadam ever was. Sadam was a dictator and liked to kill members of his own family and such,...ahhh, but bin Laden was a b u s i n e s s man. If you were going to hide millions of dollars, and you were him, you know that you could not come into the U.S. to collect, but you chould go to China, right? Food for thought there guys....Food for thought. And some of that spam mail people get stung on and trying to filter billions through Americans who are stupid enough to get caught up in it? Just think about it...and if you're a cop...get this guy in the FACES software, age him five years, remove all the stuff and Americanize his appearence. What've ya got? And one more comment, I'm a consersative Christian who never stops considering any and all possibilities. So, here's a little more confusion for ya. I've also learned one thing in my Law Enforcement education...NEVER SAY NEVER...AND NEVER SAY THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE. Because the things that people would expect someone like bin Laden would do?, he'll do just what the people would not expect from HIM.

In Boston, which is primarily Democratic, the police are going door to door searching homes for weapons without warrants. In Philly, which is also primarily Democratic, they are doing something similar. It is NOT just conservatives that advocate suspending our rights for the safety of the population. Think about that before you point your finger. My examples above are the most outright and direct violations of the constitution, a lot worse than the potential for a phone call of your to be monitored.

Why are conservatives claiming they provide security? Because when America gets attacked they answered back. What did Clinton do about the USS Cole? Nothing. '93 WTC? Nothing. What do terrorists have to do to get Democrats into action? Now that they control the house, they could propose anti-terror legislation or provide ideas on how to move America forward dealing with terrorists, and they just don't do it! I really wish they would, America needs to be constructive when dealing with this problem. The time to bury our heads in the sand is over.

Freedom and security are not mutually exclusive.
In some situations they are, but not all. And liberals have no credibility when talking about freedom as long as they support MANDATORY participation in government monopolies.
If you have freedom, then you are as secure as you choose to be.

You're mixing words just like ole Bill Clinton, security and freedom are entirely two different things! Nice try!

Interesting, is it not, that the security old Ike is talking about is the socialist welfare stuff that the Democrats want to give people - food, shelter and medical care.

You only have to give up your freedom, and the state will take care of you. Isn't that *special*!

Why do you think you cannot have security and freedom at the same time? They are not mutually exclusive concepts.
