I'm a country girl. My absolute favorites ... fresh wild turkey - the kind with feathers and not the kind that comes in a bottle, although that's not too bad either! But I digress. As to wild turkey as opposed to say Butter Ball, It has less white meat and both dark and light have more flavor although it is not at all gamy.

As to the ham (and I like a little of both ham and turkey at my holiday table) my preference is well cured real old fashioned country ham sliced thin enough to read through. Most of my family don't care for it though and I shouldn't eat it because of the salt content so I rarely have it. Such is life.

All with the usual accompaniments, of course, but always with thin little Angel Biscuits (a regular buttermilk biscuit but with the addition of yeast) Thanks for the memories.

I cooked a frozen turkey breast down for thanksgiving but will probably fix a fresh ham for Christmas or New Years.

I only like a turkey breast for Thanksgiving, I get frozen. I get ham for Christmas. I have to be careful when I buy ham because of my allergies, some of the additives and preservatives bother me. I'm going to look in to buying a fresh one this year without additives.

I think both ham and turkey are both great !!! Definately fresh! Even for those who despise cooking I feel like on the holidays if you want to be the host or hostess fresh and from scratch are the only ways to go. My mother -in-law hates cooking so much she makes the boxed mash potatoes and as far as I'm concerned why bother?

After having turkey for Thanksgiving, and lots of leftovers,
I prefer ham for Christmas. Sometimes we have an oven roast, but never turkey two holidays in a row.

I really love fresh Ham from Heavenly Ham (or Honey Ham). The glaze is sweet and crispy and delicious. It also contains no MSG and is low in fat and has no preservatives. Very very good. If I eat turkey though, I like it either way as long as it is cooked right.

Fresh turkey just blows any kind of ham out of the water!

I prefer a spiral ham but its alot more fattening than turkey.
Live it up for the holiday, it only comes once a year and I'll eat what I like.
