I'd say it's a tossup between two:
Knute Rockne All American
Brian's Song
Both of these are well-acted, and feature some of the most emotional scenes in any sports films. I know that Brian's Song is more than a little hokey at times, but that's something true of many sports films. And the Knute Rockne film is brilliant.

Varsity Blues was the worst depiction of Texas High School Football ever! How do players take over a team, absolutely ridiculous!! Gotta be Rudy.

Varsity Blues.
Edit: Sorry the Texas High School Football program was so offended but I believe it was a movie, not a documentary.

I would agree with you.. in some parts a little far fetched, but probably one the best. That or North Dallas 40, that is just my opinion though.
On a sentimental note - Brian's Song is good too!
