If your husband was renting the unit before your were married, the landlord probably just wants to add you to the lease to make you legally responsible for the unit. As long as your name's not on the lease, you're not responsible for damages and no landlord wants that. As soon as you're on the lease, you become responsible for rent and all other terms on the lease, 100 %, just like your husband.

Alot of landlords have this "requirement" but as long as they are getting rent every month, they actually don't have legal grounds to ask for it.
You rent a space, and as long as the person on the lease financially qualifies, they cannot require you to be on the lease too.
The only reason they want you on the lease is so they can have another person to go after in the event they stop collecting rent or if damages were excessive.

It depends on the apartments standards, as long as you dont have a felony, you should be ok. Adding someone to the lease is just to have a record of all the tenants. If you have been a good enough tenant there should be no problem

I work at a property management place in Lake County California. With us when a tenant marries after moving into a place the new addition mealy fills out an application and it gets added to the property folder. We don't do a credit check on the person.
But that's our company policy. I would talk to the person who runs the office to see what their policy is.

Your credit has nothing to do with it. They simply want to have a legal relationship to all of the adult occupants. It isn't going to be used as an excuse to evict you after two years.
